The name of “Dame-Blanches”, or white ladies, was bestowed on the two-compartment public omnibus that plied the Madeleine-Bastille run in Paris. This was the first Hermes scarf, printed in 1937 from a woodcut patterned on the figures of an early board game. A certain “clumsiness” due to the original woodcutting process was reverently reproduced in the re-issue of this scarf in 1986, times for the opening of the boutique of the Musee des Arts de la Mode in Paris.
