Is It Bulgari or Bvlgari?
June 7, 2020
Bulgari is the brand name and Bvlgari is the trademark. Trademark is a name or symbol legally owned and used on products by an entity and that can not be used by another entity. If you are unsure of how to pronounce the brand name, here it is in Italian:
Bulgari’s Stories
Bulgari was founded by Greek silversmith, Sotirios Voulgaris (1857 – 1932) in 1884. The founder was born in March 1857 and he was one of the 11 children of Georgios Voulgaris (1823–1889). The trademark Bvlgari derived from the last name of the founder. In Latin, there is no difference between V and U but V is typically used.
The first Bulgari jewelry boutique was opened in 1884 on Via Sistina 85, followed by second one on Via dei Condotti 10 in 1905, that was about 21 years later. The second boutique is also the iconic store till today.
Bulgari products range from jewelry, watches, accessories, fragrances and cosmetics to hotel industry (Bvlgari Hotels and Resorts). It is part of the LVMH group currently.
